3-Week Tea Set Course

WHAT TO EXPECT
During the three weeks students will be learning different techniques to help create their ideal tea set with the third week focussing solely on glazing. In the first week you will make some small items e.g. serving spoon, sugar pot and cups to get a feel for the material.
COURSE BREAKDOWN
Week 1
A short introduction to clay and what to expect from the course. Students will get to fire two cups of their choosing along with a sugar pot.
Pinching and coiling – i.e. cups and sugar pots
Week 2
In this class you will learn the art of plate making. and make your milk jug!
Week 3
Introduction to glaze application and decoration. In this final week you will be glazing your whole tea set.

COLLECTION
In about 3 weeks your items will be ready for collection. We will notify you by email and you can swing by the studio to collect your pieces..
Unfortunately once we have notified you, we can not keep items for longer than two weeks due to limited storage.

All workshop/class/course bookings are non-refundable, but we are very happy to rebook you onto a new date if you can no longer make it! If you need to change your booking, we just ask for more than one week’s notice to do so.

COURSE BREAKDOWN
Week 1
A short introduction to clay and what to expect from the course.
pinching and coiling – drinking vessel, olive bowl, dip bowl, spoons. You will also learn mould pressing techniques to make a bowl and a salt and pepper pot.
Week 2
Introduction and demonstration on slab building and press moulding.
In this class you will make a plate and learn the slab building technique.
Week 3
Glazing
Introduction to glaze application and decoration. In this final week you will be glazing your tableware pieces.

3-Week Japanese Tableware Set Workshop
Food has always been a big part of the Kana brand, we love working with restaurants that require specific pieces to complete their tableware sets. We know that this also translates into the home so we’ve created a workshop specifically for those who want a set of tableware for Japanese food! During this course students will get the opportunity to make a Ramen Bowl, Tea Cup and a Sushi plate as well as special dip pots for ginger, soy sauce and wasabi. And if you’re skilled enough we may even be able to squeeze in a set of chopsticks (believe it or not they’re really tricky to make!)

COURSE BREAKDOWN
Week 1
A short introduction to clay and what to expect from the course.
Creating a perfect Ramen bowl with Mould pressing technique
Pinching and coiling to create three dishes to hold soya, wasabi and ginger.
Week 2
Making a perfect tea cup using a Kurinuki technique, following in second part of the class creating a Square or Round Sushi plate - it can be also on little stands, or legs using a slab rolling technique
Week 3
All your pieces from week 1 and 2 will be fired and ready for glazing session.
Introduction to glaze application and decoration. In this final week you will be glazing your whole Japanese tableware set.

Join us for our 3 week ‘Make your own Planters course’
This course is different to our 3 week Planter course as we will only use one method of handbuilding, the slab building technique, to build a set of three planters.
In the first class you will be guided through the process of how to build two small cylindrical planters. In the second class you will build your main project a medium sized planter, your own design and shape, but must be using the slab building method. In the final class you will be glazing your new set of plant homes :)
WHEN
The course will run from 7pm until 9 pm.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Week one
In the first week you will learn the slab building technique and make two small slab built succulent pots. I will talk to you individually about about your design for your main project and I will ask you to do a little bit of homework and prepare a template for the following class :) You will also prepare your slabs of clay so they will be leather hard and ready to use for the next class.
Week two
In the second week you will construct your main project, a medium sized planter of your own design.
Week three
On the third week there will be an introduction to glaze application/ decoration and you will glaze your set of planters. There will be a selection of glazes to choose from.

Kana clay parlour is back with our explorer workshops held over 3 relaxed evening sessions in a small group of 8 people. The group size allows for plenty of one-on-one time, making this class suitable for both complete beginners or people who would like to further their clay skills.

The workshop runs for 2 hours between 7pm - 9pm.

Session 1 -
You will be hand building small items such as plates, salt and pepper pinch bowls, ring plates and little tumblers to get a feel for the material and understanding of the process.
Session 2 -
This session we will focus on your main project. You will make one or two bigger items of your own design and idea. I will help you and give as much guidance as you need. We will choose a suitable technique to make your item.
Workshop 3 -
Choose your glaze and glaze your new items. You will leave your items for us to fire and once they are fired we can arrange pick up.

3 x 2h studio sessions
Plus my guidance and tuition, working on individual project with each of you. And the handling and sanding of your work in between classes.
You will also receive 20% off to use in our shop throughout the class.

Breakfast Set Workshop (3-weeks)
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why not enjoy your breakfast out of your handmade KANA set? With this course we hope each piece will bring you joy and help you start your day out right! During this three week course students will learn the basics of hand building and go home with 5 pieces.

WHAT TO EXPECT
During the three weeks students will be learning different techniques to help create their ideal breakfast set with the third week focussing solely on glazing. In the first week you will focus on making two perfect breakfast bowls, if time allows we will make the cups on the day. In your second week you will move onto plates and finish of with the cups. all pieces will be dried and bisque fired for your third session where you will focus on glazing your breakfast set.
