Japanese Kurinuki Workshop
from £85.00

Tutor: Sinead, Vesna or Jenny
When: 7pm-9pm
Where: Kana Studio, 5A Gransden Ave, E8 3QA

Kurinuki is a Japanese form of hand building.
It involves using a block of clay and carving the exterior form and hollowing out the interior. This is a more sculptural way of working with clay but translates beautifully to functional ware.

Kurinuki is an instinctual and impetuous way of working with clay. Rather than symmetry and precision the emphasise is put mainly on allowing the form to evolve impulsively allowing the lines of form to reveal themselves during the making process.

Anyone can have a go regardless of experience, it’s a fun and rewarding process. Once you come with an open mind and a lust for creative output you’ll be sure to enjoy.

This is a two hour workshop and we will be focusing on making a vessel in the first hour of the class and a bowl in the second hour. We will glaze your creations in a beautiful white glaze and we will notify you by email in three weeks once they are ready for collection.

Feel free to bring your own drinks to relax and unwind after a day at work, this is a fun workshop for people at all levels of hand building!

CANCELLATION POLICY:

All workshop/class/course bookings are non-refundable, but we are very happy to rebook you onto a new date if you can no longer make it! If you need to change your booking, we just ask for more than one week’s notice to do so.

Masterclass with Ana: Life Drawing and Sculpture
£200.00

Special Masterclass with Ana Kerin: Life-Drawing and Sculpture

The first in a very special new workshop series that brings together a two different threads of my creative practice, I'm so happy to invite you to an intimate evening celebrating the feminine. We’ll come together in my studio after dark, with organic wine and treats and candlelight, to work with our hands, explore different materials and mediums and create some beautiful sculptures. You don't need to have any experience at all – or – if you do, it will be a perfect opportunity for you to explore your practice further. The class is designed to encourage you to explore your creativity, technique and ways of working, and its perfect for anyone who is curious about life drawing, working with clay, sculpting and exploring organic forms.

Life drawing

In the first hour, we will start this special workshop by observing form and shadow, drawing directly from life. Inspired by our live Studio model we will focus on sketching, teaching your eye and hand to explore organic and female forms in an artistic way with charcoal and ink. I will guide you through a range of techniques I use in my practice. No need to be "good" at drawing, so don’t worry! We’re just going to use this time to freely explore our understanding of form and weight, as inspiration for our sculptures.

Sculpture

In the second part of the workshop, I will help you to translate your beautiful drawings into material form and we will sculpt forms from clay. We will play with two different techniques I use for my work and explore the connection between our hand and mind.

We will provide

All materials and aprons

Organic wine

You take home

  • 1 sculpture which we will bisque fire for you (giving you the option to either leave the clay naked in echo of the form – or to come back for one of our future Glazing or Raku sessions). Your sculpture will be ready to collect in 3–5 weeks!

  • all your drawings in charcoal and ink from-life figure studies to inspire future work
