Kana Clay Parlour Guest Teacher: Sinead Axworthy, Planters workshop, Saturday 29th September till Saturday 27th October

During 5 weeks, every saturday, from 12pm till 2pm, Sinead will teach you how to hand craft your own planters.

You will make a set of five different planters. Each week you will be guided through a different hand building technique to make a variety of pots. You will learn skills in pinching, coiling, slab building and press moulding and surface decoration. On the final week you will glaze your pieces and they will be ready for collection the following week at the studio.

We will fire five pieces for you. This will include two small succulent pots, one rectangular planter, one wall hanging planter and one macramé pot.


Course Includes:

Fully tutored classes, all materials, firings and your very own unique planter set.

Please come to the course with at least four reference photos regarding your planter set and other ideas you may have. These may include ideas about form and shape, colour, pattern, texture or simply images that inspire you.

  • Saturday 29th September: A short conversation about clay, its inspiring qualities and what to expect from the course.

    Introduction and demonstration to coiling/pinching and some simple surface decoration.

  • Saturday 6th October: Introduction and demonstration on slab building

    This week I will have pre-rolled leather hard slabs and prepared templates. In this class you will be constructing a rectangular planter.

  • Saturday 13th October: This week you will be re visiting the slab building technique to construct a wall hanging planter there will be a short demonstration on how to build two types.

  • Saturday 20th October: Introduction to press moulding.

    In this class you will be making a press moulded macramé planter.

  • Saturday 27th October: Glazing

    Introduction to glaze application and decoration.

    In this final week you will be glazing your set of five planters.
