Kintsugi Workshops May 18th
Kintsugi Workshops May 18th
SPECIAL GUEST WORKSHOP:
I'm trilled to announce a special guest appearance by Kintsugi master, Iku Nishikawa who will be guiding us through this traditional Japanese technique.
what you get:
- 1.5 hour tester session OR
- 3 hour master class
+ add on: 1 hour 22 carat gold/silver masterclass
When: Saturday May 18th
Where: Kana Studio, 5A Gransden Ave, E8 3QA
At Kana we always try to see the beauty and potential in every piece that comes through the studio. Accidents happen, things crack in the kiln and things get chipped -that’s life! Instead of throwing these things away we look for different ways to use them or methods to fix them. Kintsugi is a beautiful traditional technique created in Japan that gives new life to those favourite broken pieces. Where there are cracks they fill them in using an epoxy glue before applying urushi lacquer. If so desired they will then apply a coat of silver or gold over the cracks to help give those a positive twist! We are so pleased to have Iku Nishikawa in the studio to help guide you through the process of Kintsugi.
While we welcome students to bring their sentimental pieces we always advise to practise on something less valuable like one of our provided Kana pieces. Once you’ve taken our course you can then feel more confident working on your own pieces. If you do decide to bring your own item, please make sure that it is a SINGLE BREAK item as this is the only way the process works.
Please read below to decide which course best suits you and what you’re looking for! Remember that if you’d like to attend the gold + silver portion of the workshops you must notify us beforehand and pay in CASH on the day.
Course Option 1 - Tester Course
Ticket Price: £45
May 18th from 1-2:30pm
During this 1.5 hour session students will get a short introduction into Kintsugi from Iku. Students will also have the option to purchase a Kana piece that they can use during the class. If you decide to bring your own broken piece, please make sure it is a SINGLE BREAK item, otherwise the process won’t work. We recommend that you do not bring pieces of sentimental value to practise on.
Students will be able to work on one piece during the course.
Course Option 2 - Explorer Workshop
Ticket Price: £120
May 18th from 3-6pm
Each student will get one Kana piece to work on in this course and will get to take the Kintsugi kit (£60 value) home with them. If you decide to bring your own broken piece, please make sure it is a SINGLE BREAK item, otherwise the process won’t work. We also recommend that you do not bring pieces of sentimental value to practise on.
