MASTERCLASS WITH JUDITH LASRY :
LARGE SCALE ‘primitive pots’

Saturday 10th February  and Sunday 11th February 2018

Judith Lasry is a French ceramicist working in Paris.  She creates her ceramics with clay from Burgundy in a wild gesture, naive and primitive. She favours hand building, in particular all kinds of pinch pots. She also has an obsession with food and therefore has developed a range of ceramics for the table as well as random sets of vessels and unique pieces.

Functional or dysfunctional, she loves to explore all the perfects in imperfections.

She finds pleasure to use her hands to dig and tear and throw the clay, without mould or wheel.

This is a new approach in experimenting the world of ceramics and produces unique and wonderful pieces. We look now at ancient pottery and in particular those of primitive people, in which the quality of the material tells us the shape and pattern to adopt, with instinct. Today, we see this art trying to move forward, cutting from a past of traditional figurative ceramics.

Judith works with magnificent Chef Taku Sekine of Dersou, Paris and her work has been featured in New York Times and L’Officiel Paris
