Each week you will be guided through a different technique to build a piece of you tableware set. In the first week you will make some small dining items e.g. serving spoons or salt and pepper holders just to get a feel for the material. In the following weeks you will construct your tableware set. This will consist of something to eat off, a vessel to drink from and an item to decorate your table e.g. a vase or candle holder. In the fourth week you can re visit a technique you enjoyed and make a duplicate item of your choice for a friend or partner. You will have 6 items in total, 4 medium sized pieces and 2 smaller ones. KANA studios is now opening its doors every Saturday for 2hour Clay Taster sessions.

This course is different to our 5 week Planter course as we will only use one method of handbuilding, the slab building technique, to build a set of three planters.

In the first class you will be guided through the process of how to build two small cylindrical planters. In the second class you will build your main project a medium sized planter, your own design and shape, but must be using the slab building method. In the final class you will be glazing your new set of plant homes :)

CANCELLATION POLICY

Unfortunately we must ask that you give us at least 2 weeks notice if you need to cancel. If you move your booking to a different date we can only move your booking once.

If you prefer, you can gift your course to a lucky friend. You must email us and let us know the details of the person coming in your place so we dont get mixed up! :)

NEW Saturday Clay Taster sessions

KANA studios is now opening its doors every Saturday for 2hour Clay Taster sessions.

Our Clay Taster sessions are a great introduction to hand building with clay and we can accommodate complete beginners and more experienced folk. Two hours is just enough time for you to get a feel for the material, a little snippet into the wonderful world of ceramics!

You can choose from either of the two sessions

10am-12pm or 2pm -4pm.

Kana clay parlour is back with our explorer workshops held over 3 relaxed evening sessions in a small group of 6 - 10 people. The group size allows for plenty of one-on-one time, making this class suitable for both complete beginners or people who would like to further their clay skills.

Dates and Times:
The workshop runs for 2 hours between 7pm - 9pm. It will run on 3 consecutive Tuesdays starting on March 5th.

Session 1 - Tuesday 5th February
You will be hand building small items such as plates, salt and pepper pinch bowls, ring plates and little tumblers to get a feel for the material and understanding of the process.

Session 2 - Tuesday 12th February
This session we will focus on your main project. You will make one or two bigger items of your own design and idea. I will help you and give as much guidance as you need. We will choose a suitable technique to make your item.

Workshop 3 - Tuesday 19th February
Choose your glaze and glaze your new items. You will leave your items for us to fire and once they are fired we can arrange pick up.

Included in the workshop:

all the clay,
all the glazes
all the firings
3 x 2h studio sessions
Plus my guidance and tuition, working on individual project with each of you. And the handling and sanding of your work in between classes.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In the first week you will make some small dining items e.g. serving spoons or salt and pepper holders just to get a feel for the material. In the following weeks you will construct your tableware set. This will consist of something to eat off, a vessel to drink from and an item to decorate your table e.g. a vase or candle holder. In the fourth week you can re visit a technique you enjoyed and make a duplicate item of your choice for a friend or partner. You will have 6 items in total, 4 medium sized pieces and 2 smaller ones. In the final class you will glaze your pieces and there will be a selection of glazes for you to choose from.

In this class you will make a press moulded plate or bowl.

In this week’s class you can use any of your new skills to construct a dining item of your own choice. This is a good opportunity to re visit a technique you enjoyed or make a duplicate of one of the previous items.
